Garter Stitch Knit Bow Cup Cozy

December 8, 2016 by Julie 3 Comments

This sweet Garter Stitch Knit Bow Cup Cozy only uses one stitch, the knit stitch! If you’re learning to knit this is a great beginning project, but also makes a quick knit gift for experienced knitters. And you learn how to knit a bow!

Dress up your favorite drink with a knit bow. Cup cozies are one of my favorite quick knit projects. They make any cup look better and it’s easy to have a bunch on hand for hot drinks when it gets cold outside. They are also a perfect handmade gift or stocking stuffer.

How To Knit a Bow

The cozy is knit in two pieces, but both are knit the same way. For the larger piece I cast on 12 stitches and knit until the piece measured 9 inches in length.

For the smaller piece (which becomes the bow) I cast on 6 stitches and knit for 18 rows.

Then I stitched up the ends of the larger knit piece with a tapestry needle. I tied some yarn around the center of the smaller piece to turn it into a bow. And then I stitched my bow onto my cozy.

And just like that I could slip it onto a cup filled with my favorite hot drink. It just makes everything a little more festive!

This is super cute! Was wondering what weight of yarn you used? Does it matter? I love chunky knits.

Hi Jade! In the video I used a medium/worsted weight yarn and for the finished green cozy I used 2 strands of a thin/fingering weight yarn held together.
