One of our goals this summer is to have the kids all helping more in the kitchen. Having them help choose and prepare meals gives them a chance to learn some cooking skills and makes them more excited about what we are having for dinner. Their favorite way to help is by chopping fruits and vegetables.
Fajitas are a fairly simple meal to eat and home and the bell peppers are great for the twins to practice chopping. (They still prefer that I slice the onions.) We made chicken fajitas with a red bell pepper.
I even got really ambitious and made flour tortillas from scratch. They were soft, chewy, and delicious. And pretty easy to make. I will admit that they are a tad time consuming, but they were good enough that I will be making another batch homemade tortillas when we eat Tex-Mex again.
Once we were done chopping the vegetables for the fajitas it was so easy to have the twins use the Green Works Pump ‘N Clean product to clean up. All they had to do was put a sponge on top, push down, and then the sponge was ready to wipe down their knives and cutting board. The best part is that the Green Works line cleans powerfully without harsh chemical fumes or residue.
You can find the Green Works Pump ‘N Clean on the natural cleaning aisle in Target. In fact Target is the only store to offer the full range of Green Works products. And from June 14-July 11, use the Target Cartwheel app to save 10% on all varieties of Green Works products (including Pump ‘N Clean).
Once our cutting boards were clean we could start slicing up our fruits. With the 4th of July coming up we decided to make watermelon and blueberry fresh fruit shooting stars. We sliced up a watermelon and then used a star shaped cookie cutter to cut out the smaller star shapes. The larger stars were sliced free-hand. Then I used a small melon baller to make indentions for us to add our blueberries.
The final step to making them shooting stars was to put them on skewers. These would be great for any summer party!
And when we were done slicing our fruit, everything got a nice wipe down with the Pump ‘N Clean. Simple enough that the twins could do it, but strong enough that I trust that my counter is clean. I do have to mention that Green Works Pump ‘N Clean should not be used with raw fish or meat.
I’ve shared how I keep my kitchen clean along with one of my favorite summer recipes. I’d love to hear about your cleaning tips and favorite summer recipes!

I love those watermelon stars! We’ve been eating watermelon like crazy this summer, and I’m thinking these stars would be a fun way to serve watermelon on the 4th. Thanks for sharing! #client
