Finger Knitting

November 13, 2014 by Julie 5 Comments

finger knitting letter k

It’s no secret that I have a slight obsession with yarn. So for the letter K I thought the kids and I could try some finger knitting.

First things first, we made some t-shirt yarn out of a couple worn out shirts. (You can see my t-shirt yarn tutorial HERE.)

I practiced with Oldest Twin first, to show Littlest how it worked.

Oldest Twin has done some finger knitting with me before and was a wiz at it. Clearly, Littlest was not nearly as excited by the activity.

I’ve shared a finger knitting tutorial before (that you can read here) but Oldest Twin helped me put together an animated one for you as well.

The first step for finger knitting is wrapping the yarn around your fingers. Wrap around your first three fingers, back and forth so that you have two rows on each finger.

The second step is to pull the bottom row up and over the top row.

Then just keep repeating wrapping the yarn so you have two rows and pulling the bottom row over the top row.
When the piece is as long as you want simply cut the yarn and bring the end through each of the loops.

Finger knitting is the base for my ever evolving front door wreath. But they also make great bracelets, scarves, and all kinds of other things!

My grand daughter would love to do this. Next time I get her we will have to come back to your blog to get the directions. It does look super simple…even I could do!!!

So fun! I remember doing this in school when I was younger, I think we made pot holders or trivets for our moms for mother’s day.
