Who doesn’t need more storage space in their home? Add this DIY Industrial Pipe Shelving to a room at your house
Living close to family (in our case, in the same city) means we often work together on home improvement projects. My in-laws were instrumental in helping us update our downstairs bathroom. When my in-laws were building this Industrial Pipe Shelving in their kitchen it was a project that we got to help with.
I love that they essentially took pine boards and threaded pipe and turned it into a storage area for their kitchen! The microwave and toaster oven are stored on these shelves, plus baskets with linens and other kitchen items.
For this DIY project they used
- Threaded pipe
- 90 degree elbows
- T-joints
- Caps
- Feet (for the bottom shelf)
- Pre-made pine shelf boards
- Wood stain
- Drill
The pine boards are all the same size. They got stained and then my husband helped drill holes large enough for the pipe to fit through. The pipe is really what holds all of the shelving together. It runs up the back of the selves, and then forward underneath each shelf. The 90 degree elbows come up through the front on each side of the boards and then get a cap on top. It’s even screwed into the ceiling at the top. The bottom of the shelving sits on feet on top of their tile floor.
The shelves are a great place to store kitchen appliances plus baskets filled with kitchen linens and other items you want close at hand. And the industrial look would be great in lots of homes. Plus you could stain or paint the boards whatever color you wanted to match your home.
I love DIY projects like this. Our home was built in the 1950’s and doesn’t have a whole lot of space. So we are often creative with seating and storage solutions. Of course our home also often needs more major improvements. Since we’ve lived there we’ve installed central heating and air, put in new windows, and many other projects. But there are still things that need to be done (like some siding repair).
