Things don’t always turn out the way you plan

March 3, 2011 by Julie Leave a Comment

Last week I posted a picture of this sign I wanted to make. I posted it on Facebook and some crafty friends jumped on board and said that they wanted to make one too. We all got together yesterday and went to work.
My sweet husband cut the wood for us (11x16ish)
I spray painted mine an off-white and let it dry. Then I attached the vinyl letters (thanks Sarah) to the top. (You can see the lines I drew to help block out where to put the letters.) And then I painted it black.

Except I messed it up. Instead of spray painting I used regular paint and the black bled under all my letters. So I had to rethink my plan. I painted the whole thing black with my paint and let it dry overnight. And I went and bought some spray paint. This afternoon I added a layer of black paint spray over the whole thing. Then I restuck the lettering and sprayed the whole thing off-white and waited for it to dry.

Because of all the layers of black when I took the new letters off they pulled some of the black up. Which, thankfully, I think looks really great!

Then I scuffed up the edges

And here we are!

I’m hanging it up in the twins room as a reminder to them that I believe that they can do things, even when they are difficult.

I think it looks really nice. Plus if it is going in the boys room, a little scuffed matches growing boys I think.
