Pumpkin pies from scratch

November 22, 2012 by Julie Leave a Comment

Today is a day that I will spend with family eating lots of good food.

We are going to my parents house and I have my list of items that I am making. One of which is some pumpkin pies from scratch. And when I say from scratch, I mean from scratch.

This summer we grew pumpkins in our backyard pumpkin. Once they were ripe we picked them and they lived in our pantry. Once fall got here I put one out as a decoration. It looked pretty sitting next to some fall flowers.

This week I started the process of making my pumpkin turn into a pie. I chopped it, roasted it, peeled it, and pureed it.

And finally turned my pumpkin into two pumpkin pies.

I’m happy to say they turned out deliciously. I used the same recipe I always use, just substituted the fresh pumpkin for canned. (I also made the crust from scratch. I often buy pre-made crusts, but I figured since I was going through all the effort of making a pumpkin pie from a real pumpkin that the crust should be made from scratch too.)

We always have chocolate pie at my parents house at Thanksgiving as well. I had a slice of both.

Happy Thanksgiving. I’m very thankful for everyone who comes to visit me here.
