Make your holidays even more merry and bright with this Knit Christmas Tree Hat! Grab the free pattern.

Knit Christmas tree hat

Need a hat to wear to all of your holiday events? This festive Knit Christmas Tree Hat is the perfect choice!

I just got back from a trip to Leavenworth, Washington, the cutest alpine themed town that feels like it’s straight out of a Christmas movie.

Snow covered, with a lit-up town square, complete with a gazebo. On the weekends you’ll find musical performances, but all week long there are Christmas stores to visit, a Nutcracker museum, a snow hill, lots of German themed treats, and even vendors selling roasted chestnuts to really feel like you are walking around in a Christmas song.

As I was packing for our trip I knew I needed the perfect winter hat to wear. A Christmas Tree hat!

This knit Christmas hat is made using 3 different colors of yarn (the green for the trees, the snowy gray background, and the brown tree trunks). Once complete you can ‘decorate’ your trees however you want! I used yarn scraps to stitch on ornaments for some of the trees and I stitched fluffy yarn pom-poms to the tops of other trees.

Pattern notes
This pattern uses double pointed needles and is knit in the round.
Gauge: 4″x4″ square is 18 stitches and 24 rows
Total yardage is about 120 yards

C2F – means to move 1 stitch to the cable needle, hold the work in front, knit 1 stitch, then knit the 1 stitch on the cable needle. This is a cable worked over a total of 2 stitches.

C2B – similar to C2F, but hold the cable need in back.

In addition to double pointed needles I also have a pair of short (8 inch) circular needles that I use to make hats. Either would work to make this hat in the round as written. When I use the 8-inch circular needles, I do switch to the double pointed needles during the decreases.

Note: This pattern is untested. I’ve received lots of compliments wearing this hat around and I just wanted to share how I made it. Please enjoy this free pattern!
