I know it probably goes into the bad Mommy category, but my kids LOVE Pop Tarts. Have for years. They even have a routine of taking turns for who has to get the Pop Tarts out of the box. Seriously.
There has been weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth when we have been out of Pop Tarts. They are crazy obsessed with them.
So the other morning, when I was feeling nice, I got the Pop Tarts out for them and even put them on plates and delivered them to the boys. And the oldest twin scrunches up his face and looks at me and says, “I wanted Cheerios”.
So I put his Pop Tarts into a plastic baggie so he can eat them the next day (which he does) and I pour him some Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios more specifically, instead.
Now in my mind I would much rather eat Cheerios than Pop Tarts. Of course I would much rather eat a lot of things than Pop Tarts, I think Pop Tarts are gross. But I really like Cheerios (especially the Honey Nut Cheerios). But sadly I am oat intolerant. (I got in trouble for saying I’m allergic to oats, because an allergy implies an allergic reaction, which I technically don’t get. Oats just make me sick. So I’m oat intolerant. And yes I know it’s weird, and no I’ve never met anyone else with my particular ailment.) So I completely get wanting to have Cheerios for breakfast instead of Pop Tarts. But then I gets more bizarre.
A few days after oldest twin chose Cheerios over Pop Tarts for breakfast youngest twin had to one-up him.
I was downstairs eating not-Cheerios, Raisin Bran to be specific, when the twins woke up. Oldest twin got the Pop Tarts in and was carrying them in for youngest twin. Youngest twin looks at his brother and tells him he doesn’t want Pop Tarts. He wants Raisin Bran.
